What to Wear When Invited to a Ball

To know the dress code. When looking to find the perfect ball gown for such an event it is always best to check the dress code first; usually women asked to attend a ball would be required to wear something along the lines of a long evening dress or floor-length ball gown.

Choose the right dress color. Black is always good as a staple option due to the fact that it suits every body shape and also helps hide a multitude of sins. But, if you want to steer-clear of the melancholy color yet want something along the same lines then navy blue would be your next best hue. It’s a rich, solid yet regal color which works perfectly with all skin tones and hair colorings.
If you have pale skin tones then steer clear of lighter colors such as cream, white and oyster. Vintage ball gowns are usually constructed of fiery reds, sapphire blues, onyx blacks and emerald greens; all very festive but can also work throughout the year and seasons when paired with the correct accessories.
Make sure the ball dress can fit your body shape, and the styles that are popular for such an occasion and look classic and classy would be the sweetheart neckline, a draping cowls neck or a statement backless number. Flattering detailing is also key with asymmetric gowns, beading and textured materials being the ideal options as they are noticeable and usually shimmer in the lights.
When you have chosen your perfect evening dress remember to accessorize accordingly and to use pieces which look vintage or interesting, or are a talking point. A headpiece can be striking as well as a mask (if it is a masked ball). Statement jewellery such as necklaces and cocktail rings or heirloom pieces: Something with a history, are also great to add in.
